Risen

Sunday - He is Risen

Perhaps no event in human history can compare to the beauty, magnitude, and peace of the resurrection of Jesus Christ!  Because of Him, He has unlocked the chains of death, He has opened the door to eternity, and  He has given us all immortal glory.  The beauty of this truth is that all of mankind, good or evil, and everyone in between are recipients of this glorious gift.

The Jewish leaders, fearing the little band of Christians would steal the body to promote Christ being resurrected, petitioned the Romans to send two soldiers to guard the tomb.  It must have been an incredible surprise for these two Roman soldiers to see two angels appear to escort the Risen Lord from his earthly tomb.

Risen Shop's Take

We like the fact that the first person to see Jesus was a woman, Mary Magdalen.  She went to the tomb first and saw it empty.  We like to think that the sheets or robes that wrapped the body of Jesus were neatly folded at the head of the place where His body was laid.  Mary went to the garden, distraught, weeping.  She heard a voice behind her asking, “Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?”  Thinking it was the caretaker of the Garden, she doesn’t turn around, but in her tears, she says, “Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou has laid him, and I will take him away.”  What happens next is what we hope for all of us when the Savior comes again and calls for us by name.  “Jesus saith unto her, ‘Mary.'”  It was all she needed. She recognized the voice, or the Holy Spirit shot through her, or maybe both.  She turned herself, and saith unto him, “Rabboni, which is to say, ‘Master.'”
